There are many ways to learn and there are many ways to study. When you are learning Portuguese there will be a multitude of tools at your fingertips to help you with your studies.Self-studying is a gift, however it’s in the contact with other learners,through discussions that doubts will be cleared. First things first, you need to know what a study group is. It is not to be confused with a social group, or a party. Although a study group can be fun,the point is not entertainment, rather it is learning. A study group is a small group of people who get together to help one another with their course material. The group should meet at a proper place free of distraction and where all members of the group will feel comfortable. This could be a classmates home, a local coffee shop, bookstore, park or library .Besides getting together to study, the group can get together to help each other with homework assignments or prepare for upcoming quizzes, tests and reports, or even write blog.
So, you may think that all sounds great but you rather study by yourself. Well, while that may be true there are some real great benefits of studying Portuguese with a group. For one thing it holds you accountable to your work. You can not skip out on homework our studying for a test if you are a member of a group that is expecting you to attend and may be unhappy with you if you do not. Another thing is a study group is a nice way to fight the boredom of studying alone. Being with your study group can be more fun because you get the added benefit of social interaction and you get to get out of the house for a while.
Another benefit of a study group are you will get to learn new study methods from everyone in the group. If you are studying by yourself you only know your method. However, if you are studying in a group you get to glean other people’s methods. You just may find a new way of studying Portuguese that you have been waiting to find out. Who knows, you may end up being the hero and having the greatest studying method that someone did not know. Also, if you are in a study group you may not understand something you are learning but someone in the group may understand it and that person can teach it to you. All in all a study group can help you tremendously in your Portuguese learning endeavor.
To start a study group is quite easy. All you will need to do is ask some of your classmates if they would like to be a member of your group. Then, for example : you add everyone on a private group on Facebook , ask the best time,date and location that is good for all parties involved. After that you designate a location for the study you can share material and choice the topic of the discussion for your next meeting.
